Reflection

In terms of the assignment; prior to the actual interviews, I though I already knew the responses, and could write the summary without their input. I found, however, that although I was correct about their being a gap in views as to perception of the SBDM, there were striking similarities as well.
I first spoke with a colleague of mine, a first year, SBDM member, and as I expected, Mr. Lacy did not see the meetings as effective. He noted that they discussed mostly budget, and not many of the pressing issues, he views in his role as a teacher. What surprised me however is how he was also unaware of his rights to direct and contribute to the committee.
In speaking with campus principal, I expected him to feel as though everything was fine and running smoothly. I was surprised to find however, that although budget and other topics were important, and had to be discussed, other members were not taking an active enough role, so he filled the meeting with the things he knew needed to be addressed, and was unaware that other members had any other business to be addressed.

From this process I have learned how important communication is, and equally in a committee, that all members are aware of their rights and responsibilities in order to truly have a committee, not just an audience.
